What it is not
It does not excuse every behaviour or deny consequences. Change can be planned without humiliation.
Notice your inner voice
Ask what you would say to someone you value in the same situation, then choose a more accurate and supportive sentence.
A small practice
Name the feeling, notice where it appears in the body and choose one genuinely helpful next step.
Understanding self-compassion
Self-compassion means responding to difficulty with understanding rather than harsh judgement. It does not ignore mistakes or remove responsibility; it creates a steadier basis for learning and change.
Why it supports resilience
Severe self-criticism may increase shame, avoidance and exhaustion. A compassionate inner response acknowledges what happened while protecting the capacity to try again.
Practising it
Notice your inner language, consider how you would speak to someone you care about and choose one realistic supportive action. Resting, asking for help and setting an achievable next step can all be self-compassionate choices.
